Philosophy
At First Footsteps our image of the child is based on the belief that they are competent, inquisitive, active explorers capable of leading their own learning journeys at their own pace.
Providing quality education and care is at the heart of what we do. Providing a safe, nurturing and inviting environment supports the child to set the pace for their own learning and development according to individual and group interests.
Being a small homely centre allows us to foster an environment which promotes Tuakana/Teina where our tamariki play and learn alongside each other.
We are committed to developing meaningful, caring and respectful relationships where the child and whanau feel valued. Through valuing open communication and promoting inclusiveness, allows the child and whanau to gain a sense of belonging.
We acknowledge our bi-cultural heritage through partnerships with our tamariki and whanau and the essence of te ao Maori throughout the centre.
First Footsteps is a home away from home for our tamariki where warmth, trust and aroha are woven into the fabric of our philosophy.
Kaiako at First Footsteps are passionate about our environment and what we provide for our tamariki.
We do our best to make
our space inviting and
aesthetically pleasing. Tamariki follow their own
learning cues and interests to learn and play together.
We take extra care in making sure the resources we set up are relevant to
current interests and
learning and are age and
stage appropriate. Being a small centre allows us to develop and maintain
meaningful relationships
with our tamariki and
whānau.
